My Xanadu?

Or maybe just my final resting place . . .

Capt Nit Wit was actually an eccentric named Art Beale. He used to throw rocks at passing cars and shake his fist at the neighbors. People thought he was crazy or at least a "nit wit." He worked at the nearby Hearst Castle and used to sort through the trash and bring "treasures" home rather than throw them out. He incorporated all this miscellany into his house. He died a few years ago and the city condemned his house as unsafe. Someone bought it and decided to make it into a tourist attraction. They repaired the walk and patched up the worst of it and they now give tours by arrangement. It's been featured on TV out of Los Angeles and was designated a state historical monument. That's why there is the sign that Brendan photographed. You can see a picture of it here:

OK That address doesn't work. I goggled in Nitt Witt Ridge and got a site and then copied and pasted the address. I'm not sure why it doesn't work. If you really care, you might try goggling Capt. Nitt Wit or Nit Wit Ridge and that should take you to the site.
