Speaking of the House Republicans, David Brooks said:

Now they have once again confused talk radio with reality.

Hmm, so the gist of it seems to be to share the blame around to both Democrats and Republicans for not voting for the bailout bill, and hence for the country's imminent financial collapse. Or am I reading it wrong?

This presupposes that the bill was in fact a great idea which, to my mind anyway, it may well not be. Ignoring the political reality (which is unmistakably distorting the decision making process), it's not obvious that this will in fact fix the problem. It's not obvious that the US Government *has* $700b to hand over.

The answers to these questions may be obvious to David Brooks but they aren't to me.

Oh, yes, certainly agreed -- it's far more complicated than anything David Brooks can hope to explain.

I just liked that line, especially considering the source.
