The title comes from a quote of Thomas Jefferson's to the effect that the newly formed United State is going to be the Colossus of Imperialism of North America. Interesting book which makes the case that a benevolent American empire would be a good thing and any time we invade a place like Iraq we should follow the British model and plan to stay for at least 100 and possibly 200 years.
