Maybe the "concord" (perhaps a Concorde, but without the supersonic capability and canards) was attacked by those alien spirit-stealing things from Final Fantasy...
It's probably also worth noting that the Concorde's only crash occurred in 2000. (source)
Unless these FF aliens also created a parallel universe, as part of their devious scheme.
