'Render' is one of our greatest words. A rendering plant will turn your old horse to glue. You can capture an innocent man and have him rendered to a black-ops CIA dungeon in Oozebekibekistan. Very few words have this sort of range.
Yes, it really is amazing how many meanings that word has, isn't it? I wonder why.
