While the politically dynastic families (and their syncophants) might view themselves as royalty or aristocracy, I think their appeal to voters is similar to Merkins’ fondness for chain restaurants – the comfort of familiarity and the expectation that while the fare may be pedestrian, it won’t be horrible (although George W. Bush blew that expectation to hell).
