New Record Set in (Intentionally) Missing the Point

Surely you've heard the line: "But apart from that, Mrs. Lincoln, how did you enjoy the theater?"

I think Matt Yglesias, musing upon James Pinkerton's joining up with Campaign Huckabee, might have come up with one even more horrific:

Advocacy of genocide as a counterinsurgency strategy aside, …

ROFL! Good point. BTW, I've been enjoying your blog a lot.

Cheers.

Thanks, Twin. Glad to hear it. I appreciate your comments, as well.

On a similar note to "Twin", I have to tell you that one of my personal favorite bloggers (a regular on my site) gave you a great comment the other day (verbal, not in the comments). He sort of brought you up out of the blue and said he really enjoys your site, though he doesn't comment here. I think he said it was both humorous and informative. Anyway, I agreed, of course!

Have you considered giving no "word verification" a chance again? Honestly, I have NO problem with spam!

John:

You mean all I have to do to get more compliments is turn off the CAPTCHA? Let me head right over to the Settings page right away!

In all seriousness:

1. Thanks for your kind words; and

2. Recent visits to your site (and Adam's, among others), have made the idea of turning off the CAPTCHA cross my mind several times. All right, you've convinced me. I'll give it another try.

Litterblog has been proudly CAPTCHA free since day 1, and have had only minor problems with spam. As we reap the increased traffic from linkage form sites like here and bloggingheads.tv pushing us up the google ladder there have been a few incidents (one just tonight that I had to delete) but since I read the comments regularly anyways I think allowing easy commenting is worth having to tidy up the site occasionally.

Adam:

I completely agree with you: easy commenting is a big plus, and I know how annoying some people find dealing with the CAPTCHA. And, like you, I read the comments regularly. So, I'm willing to accept having to delete the occasional bit of spam as a trade-off for improved accessibility for the majority.

The problem was, the last time I turned off the CAPTCHA, the spam grew to obnoxious levels within about a week.

So, all I can say is that I hope last time was an anomaly.

Brendan, you live on the East Coast right? If you don't mind me asking what job do you have that lets you stay up even later than me... often 'til early the next day, judging from when you comment on stuff...
