More on Slimy Ed Whelan

Interestingly, the reaction to Ed Whelan's outing of publius isn't breaking along party lines. While there are some right-wingers who knee-jerked to Whelan's defense, there are quite a few who see him as clearly in the wrong. Here are some samples from conservative bloggers, some of whom I even characterize as being part of the wingnutosphere.

Dan Riehl thinks Whelan should be fired. Political Byline says, "... I have reviewed the posts in question, and I simply do not believe that a public outing was necessary and quite frankly; it shows a lack of class and a very childish demeanor on the part of Ed Whelan." Just One Minute headlines, "I Deplore This," and adds "... looks like nothing more than pique. Not cool at all."

Here are three good essays on the matter, from AJ Strata, Right Wing Nut House, and Walter Olson at PointofLaw.

And for balance ;^), here's a fine piece of writing from Anonymous Liberal.

Finally, for a little more context, here is another story about Ed Whelan's petulance that Glenzilla wrote up last year. Hat tip: TBogg.

[Added] More reactions worth reading: Southern Appeal (conservative), Ed Morrisey (conservative) ← an interesting poll there, too, hilzoy (liberal), Scott Lemieux (liberal), Dylan Matthews (leanings unknown), Joe Gandelman (moderate), QandO (conservative), Gary Farber (liberal), Lean Left (your guess is as good as mine), and a follow-up post from publius himself.

[Added2] More (all liberals): Steve Benen and Eric at Edge of the American West (serious), and James Wolcott (since removed after Whelan's apology), Instaputz, Oliver Willis, and TBogg (serious flavored with snark).

[Added3] More TBogg.

[Added4] See also this comment by Jonathan Dresner on the above Edge OTAW post, a reprint of a letter he sent to National Review.

[Added5] Another conservative, Conor Friedersdorf.

[Added6] Another Edge of the American West post, this time from SEK, and one from another conservative blogger, Jonathan Adler.
