No News is Good Bad No News

The Supreme Court was supposed to consider today whether to hear a case being brought by some wingnut named Leo Something-or-other that challenges Barack Obama's citizenship, and hence, his eligibility to become president. The Court has closed up shop for the day, announced two cases that it will hear, and neither of them is this one. However, this doesn't definitely mean they won't.

My take? Clarence Thomas is going to string this out as long as he can because he's still pissed at Obama for dissing him.

As not a few lib-bloggers have already observed, NoMoMrNB among them, once the Supreme Court does decline to hear this case, it will only confirm to the wingnuts that the Justices are just another part of the vast liberal conspiracy.

However, this is already moot, as an email from Twin, reacting to recent whining emanating from Congressional Dems, points out:

Reminds me of this post from Atrios a couple weeks ago:

The Failed Obama Presidency

Why hasn't he fixed everything yet?

-Atrios 16:18

Given this age of 24/7 news and Internet-induced ADHD, and our ingrained cultural demand for instant gratification, those of us in the reality-based community are going to have to blow Job out of the water as far as patience goes.

[Added] If this story is new to you, David Weigel has a nice round-up of its history on Slate. Note that one of the many, many people attempting to push this conspiracy thinking is named Gary Kreep. No one could ever have imagined … (h/t: Steve Benen)

[Added 2008-12-06 15:47] You know, I wrote that last sentence in the original post and read it over half a dozen times since without ever noticing the obvious double entendre. I was hearing, internally, the name pronounced as "Jobe." It just now struck me how it must look to those who don't move their lips when they read. Or who aren't familiar with this Biblical character.
