"The frat boy ships out"

The Economist, who endorsed Bush in 2000, looks back at the past eight years. Sober, detailed, and devastating.

Fantastic article. Couldn't stop reading it.

Most interesting was the Eco's opinion on what WPE's achievements were. Until reading that, I honestly couldn't name a single thing that he didn't make worse.

Perhaps somewhere down the road, I'll be able to view what the Eco called "accomplishments" in that light. At the moment, I am more inclined to say they're giving him credit for doing what would be considered normal behavior, or the minimum expected, for a president. I mean, maintaining good relationships with a few allies is an accomplishment? Doing a little foreign aid and going with the tide on free trade?

Pretty weak beer, it seems to me.

Oh absolutely. Yes I might have been using "achievements" in a slightly optimistic manner (similar to WPE's characterisation of Abu Ghraib as a "disappointment", and see the excellent Jon Stewart rant about that...).
