Just Say No

The headline:

Microsoft Bids $44.6 Billion for Yahoo

Unless Yahoo thinks they're going to die anyway, this would be the worst thing they could do.

I don't like the idea of all the beans in one basket (or whatever!), but really, what does Yahoo have going for it that somebody else isn't doing better (and more profitably)?

Yahoo still does Web mail way better than anyone else, to my taste. Part of it is just my being familiar with the interface, to be sure, but it's hard to beat unlimited free storage.

Okay, so I don't use anything on Yahoo except its free email. And the last time I became a company's customer through one of the ads placed on the Yahoo mail page was in 1999. This may say something about profitability, I grant.
