Just got another email from the Obama campaign. They're hammering on this one line:
Community organizing is how ordinary people respond to out-of-touch politicians and their failed policies.
... same as they did last night, right after Palin finished her speech.
The more I look around the leftosphere, the more I get the sense that Palin's line mocking Obama for being a community organizer is really rallying the base. Our base. And it seems to have turned off any number of moderates and independents, as well.
That line of Palin's, when you come right down to it, was pretty much as elitist as it gets, wasn't it?

What surprised me is how ill-humored, snide, dismissive and spiteful all the GOP speakers sounded. Just filled with a low-grade, bubbling hate. I don't remember the Republican Party being like that before the Christian militants hijacked it.
Quite right. They've got nothing left to sell anymore besides fear and hate.
McCain really blew it. He could have done his party -- and his country -- a lot of good by admitting that this was not the GOP's year, and there would be no better time to excise the Christianists. Instead, he decided that he cared only about himself, and went with the Rove 50%+1 strategy.
There will be many reasons to enjoy his loss come November, but the failure of this particular bit of ugliness will be among the sweetest.

You can't be a mayor in New York City and not have to deal with them. You certainly can't be a mayor in New York City in the habit of trampling the civil rights and economic well being of the people you supposedly represent without having to wade through them to get to the office. Hell, Giuliani even had to deal with them on Staten Island!

Slam the opponent! Notice you didn't hear a whole lot of that from the Democratic convention. They didn't need to. And they weren't afraid to use the name of their own party. Listen to Palin's speech and try to find references to "GOP" or "Republican". Guess why.
Yeah, I'm sure they'd love it if America would forget that John and Sarah are the same party as W and Dick. I don't think America will forget.

Second all of that. And a good observation about the lack of mentioning their own party name. I was well aware that "Bush" was The Name That Must Not Be Said, but I missed that they were more generally ashamed -- of their own brand name.
