Because not every one does, apparently.
Here's a 15-minute preview of the movie "Steal Back Your Vote." Seems mostly credible, especially when considering reporting I've seen from many other sources. Main takeaways:
- Democratic complaints about voter intimidation and disenfranchisement due to the Republicans: legitimate
- The GOP trope about "voter fraud:" mostly a myth, and in fact, part of their scheme to disenfranchise poor voters

I'm not sure how much can be done in time for this election -- as with so many others, there clearly is a ton of work to be done to rebuild this aspect our democracy -- but I can think of a few things that might help:
- Vote, and encourage everyone you know to vote, even if your state seems "safe" and you think your vote "won't matter"
- Check your registration status ahead of time
- Volunteer to work as a poll watcher
- Give money and/or time to the candidate of your choice: the more votes, the better
