"Shorter" of the Day: 2008-03-02

This one caused beer out the nose:

THE UNKINDEST CUT

Ignatius to Obama: You're no Joe Lieberman!
-- Josh Marshall

This is one of those things that you can spin however you like. My sense of Ignatius's piece is that it's a fairly typical example of concern trolling. My own take on HRC's "bipartisan" efforts is that she has looked to act like a Republican wherever and whenever she thought she could gain more from the right than she'd lose from the left. Examples range from her support of flag-burning laws to the invasion of Iraq. My sense of Obama, by contrast, is that he's going to win people over to our side, without budging on principle.

It's been said that a vote for Obama is a roll of the dice, and Ignatius tries to say this without saying it. I can understand that emotion, sort of. On the other hand, HRC is a known and limited quantity. Obama may not come up boxcars, but I strongly doubt we'll see snake eyes. The odds appear to favor a positive outcome. I like our chances.
