Cover-up Followup

Following on from the Newsweek article I linked to earlier, John Cole of Balloon Juice points to an analysis of the situation by CREW (Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington).

The gist of the CREW analysis is this: It appears that those McCain lawyers who were sent to Alaska in what first appeared to be a mission of vetting after the fact (though paranoia suggested worse) are in reality looking to tie up the ethics investigations looking into Sarah Palin's recent past. Palin previously pledged to cooperate with the investigation, but has since withdrawn the pledge, meaning that subpoenas will have to be obtained, and further meaning that Palin's and McCain's lawyers will then seek to quash the subpoenas. CREW believes that the GOP campaign's plan is to use delaying tactics like these to ensure that the investigation cannot be completed before Election Day.
