Eric Alterman Asks:

Spying on Journalists? Why the Silence?

Disturbing, you have to wonder if there was just such a huge pile of outrageously arrogant behavior that people just got numb.

I'm afraid that's part of it.

Another part, I think, is that this is just more supporting evidence for the thesis that Alterman has written about for years -- paraphrased as one should never say "liberal media" without prepending "so-called."

It is my view, hardly original, that the rightwing noise machine has been hugely successful in their ongoing program to work the refs. The MSM has not been willing to look into a Republican administration with anywhere near the enthusiasm they have for Democrats since Watergate. And really, even that was somewhat of an outlier. If you've ever read The Boys on the Bus, you know that the tendency for reporters to bend over backwards not to be seen as "biased" was a problem in 1972.
