Reminder for Windows Users

Patch Tuesday was yesterday. (details)

I found that the "killbit" patch added to Internet Explorer 6/Windows 2000 caused my firewall software to notice changes in a bunch of under-the-hood Windows services that depend on connecting to the Web, meaning that right after I finished the update, I got a flurry of messages along the lines of "This program has had its digital signature changed. This could be a sign of a virus or other malware attack. Allow connection to the Internet?" I don't know if will happen for later versions of IE or Windows, or for that matter, for a different firewall program (I use Comodo), but I thought I'd mention it. Just false alarms.
