I've also heard that the Vietnamese were under the impression that he was sort of a "crown prince," due to his father being an admiral, and so he got special treatment for that reason.
There is no doubt that McCain did do some things for them, like recording propaganda. It's arguable whether this is "seeking special treatment," or just a reasonable response to torture.
You can be sure, though, that if McCain were a Democrat and he played the POW card as often as he has been, that the GOP ratfuckers would have long since defeated it with all sorts of whisper campaigns. We'd be hearing endless discussions in the MSM about "Just how much did he sell out?" and "Is there any chance that he could be brainwashed?" and "How likely is it that he was permanently mentally affected by this?"
Makes me sick to think about it. I used to be proud of our side for not going there, but when we look at just how long the GOP has been successful by campaigning almost exclusively through character assassination, it's fair to ask if the Dems are out of touch with reality. There comes a point where we just have to say, enough is enough, and until we see a change in behavior by the other side, our policy is going to be massive retaliation.

I hear John McCain collaborated with his prison guards in order to gain special favors.
